Początek roku był okazją do podsumowania wyników firmy, a przede wszystkim planu trzyletniego obejmującego lata 2019-2021. Przyjęty przez GK Specjał plan zorientowany był na rozwoju organicznym, jak również przejęciach. Zakładano podwojenie obrotów (w latach 2019-2021), a także wzrost o 95% do bazy z 2018. Dodatkowo firma ambitnie założyła, że przejęcia będą stanowiły wartość dodatkowej sprzedaży wynoszącej około 300 mln zł w latach 2020 – 2021.
Niestety pandemia zamroziła ruch kapitałowy, a GK Specjał pomimo posiadanego kapitału nie mogła w pełni zrealizować zakładanego celu. Niemniej jednak, pomimo braku przejęć udało się przekroczyć cel rozwoju organicznego osiągając w 2021 r. aż 71% wzrostu sprzedaży, w stosunku do bazy z roku 2018. Dodatkowo w ramach długoletniej strategii związanej z rozwojem sprzedaży do wewnątrz (sieci franczyzowe: Nasz Sklep, Livio, Rabat Detal) udało się osiągnąć 122% wzrost sprzedaży również w stosunku do bazy z 2018 r. Innym kluczowym założeniem GK Specjał był wzrost ilości sklepów franczyzowych zrzeszonych w spółkach oraz przekroczenie 10 tys. placówek na koniec 2021 r. Poprzedni rok GK Specjał zamknęła liczbą 10 664 sklepów, co stanowiło 44% wzrostu w stosunku do bazy z 2018 r. Warto podkreślić, że na przestrzeni trzech ostatnich lat do sieci handlowej GK Specjał przyłączyła się rekordowa liczba 3257 sklepów.
